Milkay Mununggurr
Hard Tongue Didgeridoo:
Exercises in Northeast Arnhem Land Yidaki Style

Yolngu people of Northeast Arnhem Land, Australia, call the didgeridoo yidaki. Their ngänarr-däl, or hard tongue, style has been called the hardest didge playing to learn.

On this CD, ceremonial player Milkay Mununggurr distills yidaki playing to the basics. Spoken and detailed written instructions (in English but with translations into more languages available on the internet) accompany the exercises. Rhythms are recorded at various speeds, with both the sound of the yidaki and the breathing audible. If this format sounds familiar, perhaps it is because this CD was produced by Randy Graves using the model of his Your Didjeridu Companion instructional series.

If you play didgeridoo and have struggled to learn the Yolngu yidaki playing style, this is the primer you need. Play along!

We are the exclusive American distributor of this cd, which is priced at $22. It is an expensive import, with the Aboriginal community getting an unprecedented portion of the sale price. It is also a huge giveaway of Yolngu didj style as never done before, so don't complain about the price, mkay?
European customers are encouraged to purchase from Serious Sticks.
We also sell this in a SET with other Didj teaching CDs.
